Just a very quick "Happy Easter" to all as we come to a close of the Easter season. On my personal info, you'll see I've changed my son's age to 11 (as today was his birthday). A special occasion as he was born on Easter Sunday 11 years ago and this is the first time his birthday has fallen on Easter Sunday since. Needless to say, he was thoroughly spoilt today and has had a great day.
Anyway, I hope that everyone has found a little of what they wanted for Easter - be it love, peace, spiritual uplifting or just chocolate.

Whatever happened to March?
I cannot believe that it's been so long since my last post. Life has been busy and I've been not too well with my CFS. I've got to see a neurologist next month as I've got numb skin on my feet and lower legs, while inside (my muscles etc) it's super sensitive and "burns" and aches. Not fun and totally bewildering. I'm hoping it's just a progression of the CFS (at least it's the devil you know) and not something horribly new.
Since my last post I've been playing around with new toys, like the Martha Stewart air clay moulding set and the ModPodge heat resin set. I've made a card that also incorporates quilling that I used on a set of cards I made for a commission for Papercraft Essentials.
On this card you can see a moulded heart that I made with the Martha Stewart set - super easy and very effective. Perhaps with the ribbon and flowers you can't really tell it's a heart - but it is. I'd forgotten how pretty quilling can be and while researching for the commission, discovered a whole new branch of it called husking, where you wind the quilling paper around a wide toothed comb, which I'll demonstrate some time.
I'm including this card with the Scrapbook Boutique April Challenge, which is to use the following photo as inspiration for a project. I think it works with it.
My son's on school holidays at the moment, but before the school break he wanted some Easter treats to share with his mates. So, using my trusty We R Memory Keepers pillow box maker, I made some boxes that I decorated with stickers and filled with mini eggs.
(The photo was taken on the boot of my car in the garage just before we took them to school so it's not the best background - not festive enough.) The oval tag I did on my computer and just hand cut. From all accounts the boxes were favourably received by his friends. I was surprised how quickly I was able to create them and how little fuss was needed. It's a great tool to have.
Anyway, that's enough for now.

Another quick card for today
Last year I created a set of cards for Australian Simply Cards that used the triple stamping technique. While experimenting I made this card that used the same stamp from Darkroom Door that I later used for the submitted card (though that one used a purple/lavender palette).
I loved this technique as it was fun matching up the layers once they'd been stamped (very similar to pyramage) and I loved how this card turned out.

The shine on the blooms is Diamond Glaze and looks much better IRL.

So Much to Share...
Wow! Such a lot to share with you that's happened over the last week.
Firstly ...da dahhh! I found my necklace! It was caught up between the doona and blanket on the spare bed. Mum came to stay the night for her birthday and I removed the quilt and there it was. Even though the sheets had been replaced since the last time she slept over, I'd only rolled the blankets down and then rolled them back up again. (I know - not the best house-keeping practices, but ..?) I'm sure you'll be able to see from the photo why I was so anxious about losing it.
Next of all, I received my copy of the latest Australian Simply Cards (issue 65) and was chuffed to see one of my cards featured on the cover. These cards were made for a technique feature about using brayers. I loved how these cards turned out and am so happy that they were highlighted.
Finally, I'm sharing with you a card I made using my left-overs. This is similar to one of the cards used in the above magazine, but I used sponge daubers instead of a brayer to get the colour variations and I used another stamp than the one used in that issue. (That one was much nicer).
But I have to admit this set of stamps from Stamp-It (siset070) are great if you want to do that "water reflection thing".
Anyway, got work to do - I'm off to do some quilling.

Has anyone heard of Mine Craft?
I have to share with you a card I had to make for my son's best friend (who, like my son, is obsessed with the internet game of Mine Craft). His party was this afternoon and at 10.00am today I still hadn't thought of what card to make for him. Alex had rejected my idea of a robot and said I should make a Endertron 9000. Wahh???? We settled on a "Creeper" face from Mine Craft. You can see my result below.
While I'll be the first to say it's nothing great, from all accounts, he thought it was cool and especially liked his present, which was - you guessed it - a Mine Craft Beginner's Handbook!

Covering School Books Adventure for this Year
I just want to share with you the book covering adventure we had this year. My son Alex has Asperger's and it's important for him to be able to quickly identify his books at school and also for him to feel special, so each year I do something original. I decided to turn this tiresome task into an art experience!
This year I used my recycled butcher's paper that I got in my scrapbooking supply parcels and we sprayed it with some Glimmer Mists and a Dylusions Ink. I then covered the books with this, then finally covered with contact. I also created on Microsoft Word a banner for his name and grade, to be attached onto his books.
You can see Alex spraying the paper in this photo. The old dog bed frame (that I hadn't gotten around to dismantling yet) made an excellent holder for the paper; and he had fun creating original arts of work.
I thought it would use a lot of spray, but it used surprisingly little.
This photo doesn't really show the finished books to their best, but it was fun to see his pile of rainbow books all lined up ready to go to school.

A Plethora of Flowers
Continuing on with my kit making projects, I finished a card set from Manor House, who make some beautiful flowers. This set was bought at the Brisbane Expo back in June and I've only now got to finish them.
I've always enjoyed using flowers on my cards (a bit difficult when making masculine cards - but sometimes sacrifices have to be made! :) These cards rely on beautiful card toppers and papers from Graphic 45 (Secret Garden Collection) and a whole range of different flowers, delicate laser-cut frames and leaves from Manor House. I love the look of them - too bad they'll only be hand delivered!
As you can see these cards were super easy to make, but I like the contrast between the lovely vintage images and the big bold floral arrangements.
The papers used were well suited for the flowers supplied. Since they were double sided papers, there was a selection of the card toppers side, and on the back was an orange/white small gingham print. There was also a floral paper (used as background on this card) that I cut out some of the feature flowers. On the reverse of that was the lavender (used as the frame on this card). Lastly there was an all-over lemon spot with dog-roses printed on it, with a green, white spot and floral icon print on the back.
On this card I ran out of the lavender print, so had to substitute it with some purple cardstock. I like the extra depth the card has because of it.
I wrapped some silken twine around these cards and tied bows; as well as machine-stitching around the edges of the background papers. You can't see it well in the photos.
These cards were edged with some gold glittered paper that I cut with a fantastic die set from We R Memory Keepers called It Kits - Edge It. It has a collection of 7 dies and they're those lovely ones with the foam pieces so that paper doesn't get stuck.
That's all of my card kits for the moment. What I'll be doing next is completing some of the cards that I've made for my commissions (as for each commission I have to do cards in stages of completion for photographing) and it's a waste to have almost completed cards hanging around gathering dust. I'll change some of them slightly too, just to jazz things up.
